Baseball's Latest Hit: Torpedo Bats Shake Up Card Collecting

Remember when everyone said, "chicks dig the long ball"? Well, baseball seems to have fully embraced that motto, and now your baseball card collection is about to benefit big-time.

Introducing the "torpedo" bat, baseball's latest craze that's turned hitters into home-run machines overnight. Just ask the Milwaukee Brewers, who watched helplessly as the Yankees smashed 15 homers in their opening series—nine in one game alone. Pitchers, you might want to update your resumes.

These custom-designed bats, affectionately named "torpedoes" for their unique shape, are individually tailored to each player's preferences. The result? Baseballs flying out of the park like never before, much to the delight of fans (and horror of pitchers).

For baseball card collectors, the message is clear: bet big on hitters.

Already, Yankees star Aaron Judge's cards have shot up in value after his team's historic performance, even though Judge himself hasn't switched to the new bat. Clearly, when your teammates are launching baseballs into space, collectors don't get picky.

While there's been excitement around pitching stars like last season's NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes, the surge of torpedo bats could mean their card values drop faster than a knuckleball gone wrong. Young prospects like Jackson Jobe from the Detroit Tigers and Roki Sasaki from the Dodgers might also see their collectible stock impacted unless MLB steps in.

And then there's Shohei Ohtani—everyone's favorite baseball superhero. He can pitch, sure, but with torpedo bats dominating, Ohtani might just decide hitting homers is more fun this season. Dodgers fans and collectors wouldn't mind seeing more of Ohtani's long-ball magic.

So, pitchers, buckle up—it might be a rough ride. And collectors, it's time to go all-in on those sluggers.
