FedEx Employee Busted After Jewelry, Gold, and Rare Cards Mysteriously Vanish

At FedEx, packages are supposed to be delivered—not pawned. But authorities say one now-former employee didn’t quite get the memo.

On May 27, FedEx’s Memphis Hub launched an internal investigation after a string of high-value shipments never made it to their destinations. Among the missing: a diamond ring worth $8,500 and four gold bars valued at over $13,500 combined. Not your everyday Amazon returns.

It didn’t take long for law enforcement to track the goods—right to a local pawn shop. The seller? Antwone Tate, who, according to police, helpfully used his actual Tennessee driver’s license to seal the deal. Tate, who was working at the FedEx facility during the time of the thefts, had direct access to the packages in question.

But he wasn’t done yet. A third package containing vintage baseball cards also vanished. This wasn’t just junk drawer cardboard—one of the cards was a 1915 Cracker Jack Chief Bender, the other a 1933 Goudey Ty Cobb. Total estimated value: $6,856. Police traced these to an eBay account under the username antta_57—which, again, pointed right back to Tate.

Needless to say, he's now facing theft charges for all three incidents. FedEx confirmed that Tate has been let go and issued a statement making it clear that they don’t tolerate criminal behavior and are cooperating with the investigation.

So, while most of us are waiting for socks or phone chargers to show up on our doorstep, it turns out someone else was unwrapping gold bars and Ty Cobb like it was Christmas in May.
