More than 60 years after he last wore pinstripes, Mickey Mantle is still making headlines—this time with a rare piece of Yankees history that’s just hit the auction block. A game-used and photo-matched jersey from Mantle’s 1959 and 1960 seasons is currently up for grabs through Goldin, drawing the attention of collectors and baseball fans alike.

This isn’t just any jersey from The Mick. Worn across two powerhouse seasons, this uniform was on Mantle’s back as he slugged 71 homers and recorded 169 RBIs across nearly 300 games. The 1960 campaign, in particular, was a standout—Mantle led the league in home runs and runs scored, further cementing his place among the game's greats.

A Closer Look at the Jersey

What sets this piece apart is its detailed authentication. Experts have photo-matched the jersey to multiple images from the 1960 season—including Mantle’s Topps All-Star card—and confirmed it was worn during an exhibition game on April 11, 1960, that also featured Red Sox legend Ted Williams. The jersey also shows significant wear, a rare find for a uniform of this vintage.

Adding even more value is Mantle’s bold signature, authenticated and included alongside official documentation and multiple letters of provenance. It’s the type of memorabilia that comes along only once in a generation.

A Price That’s Still Climbing

As of now, bidding has reached $130,000, with the buyer’s premium pushing the total to $156,000. While substantial, it’s still miles away from the $4.68 million fetched by a different Mantle jersey in 2023—one worn on Opening Day in 1958. That jersey set the record for the most expensive Mantle game-used item ever sold.

Time is Running Out

The auction is open until Monday, and with high-profile memorabilia like this, the final bids could escalate quickly. Whether it ends in the hundreds of thousands or makes a late run toward seven figures, one thing’s certain—whoever wins will walk away with a piece of baseball royalty.
