The energy inside MagicCon: Atlanta 2025 was hard to ignore as Wizards of the Coast dropped a wave of news focused on its Secret Lair series. Collectors and fans were treated to two headline announcements: the horror-themed Secret Scare Superdrop and a wide-reaching partnership with PlayStation.
The direction from Wizards is becoming more obvious. Rather than aiming every product at the same audience, the company is branching out, offering hyper-targeted drops that appeal to different fandoms. Each release is built to hook a specific niche, creating multiple collector communities under the Magic banner.
The Secret Scare Superdrop launches on October 13 with 10 different drops. While it leans into spooky themes, it’s not limited to traditional horror. For fans of powerful, established cards, the Artist Series: Kieran Yanner introduces new artwork on staples like Demonic Tutor, a must-have for Commander players. Pop culture takes the spotlight as well. Jaws debuts a new game piece, Jaws, Relentless Predator, illustrated by Stephen Andrade. Iron Maiden gets two dedicated drops, including Eddie Unchained, with bold art by Dan Mumford. The Office makes its way into Magic through Dwight’s Destiny, with memorable characters and moments reimagined in card form. Three separate Furby-inspired drops add another layer of variety, tying back to Hasbro’s broader toy legacy.
The message is clear: Wizards is pulling from across pop culture to make sure every type of fan finds a reason to pick up a set, whether they’re into movies, music, TV, or iconic Magic staples.
Two weeks later, on October 27, the PlayStation Superdrop arrives. This collection taps into some of the most beloved gaming franchises ever made, including The Last of Us, God of War, Uncharted, Horizon: Into the Forbidden West, and Ghost of Tsushima. The drops aren’t just cosmetic — many introduce mechanically unique cards, built in close collaboration with developers like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica Studio. Kratos receives two different cards to represent his evolution across games, while The Last of Us introduces a Partner-Survivors mechanic that captures the series’ theme of survival. By adding characters like Aloy, Joel, and Kratos to Magic, Wizards is actively reaching into gaming’s largest communities.
This crossover shows a deliberate effort to blend the worlds of tabletop and video games, inviting new fans into card collecting while giving long-time players something fresh.
The announcements at MagicCon point to a new era for Magic collectors. Completionism is no longer the main focus. Instead, players can choose sets that align with their own tastes, whether that means music legends, iconic games, or classic Magic staples. Wizards is building a patchwork of collectible experiences under one roof, giving fans more ways than ever to find their place in the hobby.
