It’s no secret that Mike Trout’s loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles runs deep. The Los Angeles Angels outfielder might be one of baseball’s modern legends, but his heart has always belonged to the Birds.
After the Eagles’ big win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX this February — a 40-22 final that made Philly fans roar — Trout decided to commemorate the moment in a unique way. He wrote the score and “Fly Eagles Fly” on the knob of one of his baseball bats.
That’s right: one of baseball’s most decorated players paid tribute to his favorite football team with a bat knob scribble. Now, that same knob has been cut off and turned into a one-of-a-kind Topps baseball card, complete with Trout’s signature.
Trout’s Eagles fandom has never been a secret. A Millville, New Jersey native, he’s been a regular at Lincoln Financial Field over the years, often seen cheering on his team. Back in 2018, he even caught a touchdown ball from Darren Sproles during a game, cementing his superfan status.
That same year, the Angels arranged a pre-Super Bowl LII press conference so Trout could weigh in. He didn’t hesitate to pick the Eagles to win and said he’d be sporting the underdog dog mask, just like the players themselves.
Despite Trout’s incredible baseball career — three AL MVP awards, no less — his postseason resume is pretty sparse. The Angels have struggled in recent years, leaving Trout plenty of time in the fall to watch his Eagles. He’s currently under contract with the Angels through 2030, pulling in a cool $37 million annually.
At 33, Trout has faced his share of injuries, but his passion for the Eagles hasn’t wavered. For collectors, this new Topps card is more than just a baseball card — it’s a symbol of Trout’s love for his hometown team, and a piece of sports history that connects two of America’s favorite pastimes.
