The January Encore Auction hosted by Robert Edward Auctions is showcasing a captivating array of vintage sports cards and memorabilia, with items dating as far back as 1842. The auction, which will run until January 21, features over 3,700 pieces that span an impressive 180 years of sports history. Among the highlighted items are a signed 1842 receipt from baseball executive Alexander Cartwright and a rare 1888 tobacco card of pitcher John Clarkson.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, expressed pride in the diverse and extensive selection of the auction, which he described as one of the strongest they've hosted, particularly in terms of signed items and iconic cards. The collection offers something for every collector, regardless of their focus or budget.

The auction's standout pieces include an 1842 receipt autographed by Hall of Famer Alexander Cartwright, known for his significant contributions to early baseball. Additionally, the auction showcases more than 250 items signed by some of baseball's most iconic players, including Lou Gehrig, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner.

The oldest baseball card being auctioned is the 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco card featuring John Clarkson. This card, the only one of its kind graded by PSA, has received an EX 5 rating.

Other vintage highlights include a Harry Wright-signed scorecard from an 1883 game, a 1938 Lou Gehrig-signed postcard, a 1924 Walter Johnson-signed album page, and a 1939 Honus Wagner-signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover. The auction also features a Babe Ruth cut signature and checks signed by baseball legends like Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, and Roberto Clemente.

Collectors will also find a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, a 1914 E145 Cracker Jack Grover Alexander rookie card, a M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, several Hank Aaron rookie cards from 1954, and a 1957 Topps Johnny Unitas rookie card.

The auction includes a remarkable collection of T206 cards, with highlights such as a Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background and cards with rare Carolina Brights backs. Modern card enthusiasts will find gems like a 1986 Topps Football Steve Young rookie card and early Michael Jordan cards from 1984 and 1985.

This auction by Robert Edward Auctions represents a unique opportunity for sports memorabilia enthusiasts to own a piece of history, with items that capture the essence and evolution of various sports over nearly two centuries.
