The chase for Liquid Gold is officially over—at least for one lucky collector. Blez Sports, one of the hobby’s most well-known breakers, has pulled the 2024 Diamond Icons 1/1 Liquid Gold Shohei Ohtani, an ultra-rare card that is already drawing major attention. Given Ohtani’s global superstardom and the unprecedented demand for Topps’ new Liquid Gold parallel, this pull is expected to command a four-figure—or possibly higher—price tag if it hits the market.

Topps Unveils ‘Liquid Gold’—A Game-Changer in Premium Parallels

Liquid Gold is Topps’ latest innovation in high-end card production, making its debut in 2024 Diamond Icons. These parallels feature an unparalleled shine and refractive quality, setting them apart from any previous releases.

Collectors first got a glimpse of the Liquid Gold effect when a 1/1 Paul Skenes was pulled in Nashville last month. Wade Rodgers, VP of Nash Cards, shared his initial reaction to the groundbreaking design:

“It shines different than a regular refractor. We could tell immediately how unique it was.”
Now, with Ohtani’s 1/1 Liquid Gold surfacing, the hobby is witnessing the full impact of this new ultra-premium chase card.

Topps’ ‘Liquid’ Parallels Generate Tremendous Market Buzz

Topps has been heavily promoting its new Liquid parallels, rolling out a strategic marketing campaign across social media, product previews, and YouTube content. That push has helped build excitement for Liquid Silver and Liquid Gold parallels, both of which are already selling for premium prices on the secondary market.

Even non-numbered Liquid Silver parallels have been commanding major value:

  • A Shohei Ohtani Liquid Silver sold for $3,599 on February 25.
  • A Paul Skenes Liquid Silver fetched $4,751 on February 22.
  • A recent eBay search for ‘2024 Topps Diamond Icons Liquid’ showed just five completed sales (featuring Ohtani, Jackson Chourio, Paul Skenes, and Aaron Judge), with none selling for under $2,000.

Liquid Gold Parallels Set New Standards in the Hobby

As more Liquid Gold 1/1s begin to surface, collectors are keeping a close watch on their potential market values. Currently, the few Liquid Gold cards available on eBay all start at a minimum of $1,000, signaling high expectations.

  • An Aaron Judge Liquid Gold 1/1 is currently up for auction with a starting bid of $10,000.
  • No bids have been placed yet, but the listing still has four days remaining.
  • If the card doesn’t sell via eBay, sellers may turn to elite auction houses that cater to high-end hobby investors.

What’s Next for Liquid Gold?

With Shohei Ohtani’s 1/1 Liquid Gold now in circulation, and Liquid Silver versions already proving to be high-value assets, Topps may have just set a new benchmark for premium trading cards.

Collectors, breakers, and investors will be watching closely to see how high the Ohtani 1/1 Liquid Gold sells for, potentially solidifying Liquid parallels as one of the most exciting new innovations in modern card collecting.
