Wizards of the Coast and Dragon Shield Announce Official Magic: The Gathering Collaboration

At MagicCon: Atlanta 2025, Wizards of the Coast unveiled one of the most talked-about announcements of the weekend: a new licensing partnership with Dragon Shield. Known for their long-lasting, high-quality sleeves, Dragon Shield will now produce officially licensed Magic: The Gathering accessories that feature some of the game’s most recognizable artwork. For players who have relied on Dragon Shield for durability but wished for designs tied directly to Magic, this move feels like a natural evolution.

The agreement allows Dragon Shield to create a full line of Magic products, beginning with card sleeves. Wizards of the Coast Vice President of Franchise Rebecca Shepard called Dragon Shield “a trusted name among fans,” adding that the collaboration lets players protect their decks while celebrating Magic’s legendary stories and art. Dragon Shield CEO Kevin Isaacson described the partnership as an opportunity to bring his company’s passion for design and quality to a game and community they’ve admired for years.

The first wave of products was revealed at the event, giving fans an early look at what’s coming. Three themed series of Dual Matte Art sleeves are on the way:

  • Legendary Series: Launching with The Ur-Dragon, one of the most beloved and powerful commanders in Magic, clearly aimed at the Commander audience.
  • Landfall Series: Featuring alternate art for five iconic allied fetch lands like Misty Rainforest and Scalding Tarn, staples across formats and among the most valuable non-reserved list cards.
  • Guildpact Series: Previewed for spring 2026, this set will showcase the symbols of all 10 Ravnica guilds, giving players a chance to rep their favorite color pair.
The most sought-after collectible from the event was the MagicCon: Atlanta exclusive Dracogenesis sleeve, a limited release that immediately gained buzz among collectors for its exclusivity and secondary market potential.

The deal is a strategic win on both sides. Wizards and Hasbro gain a steady revenue stream by turning Magic’s iconic artwork into consumable products that players frequently replace, while Dragon Shield gains official recognition as a licensed partner tied directly to the game’s brand. For players, it means the protection they’ve always trusted can finally be paired with official Magic designs.

This collaboration represents something fans have wanted for years: sleeves that combine Dragon Shield’s unmatched durability with Magic’s legendary art. Now, the two come together in a way that feels both overdue and perfectly timed.
