Just like the Hollywood idea that acts as a springboard, 2023-24 Panini Noir Basketball cards don’t all stick to one genre. Different cards tell different stories, whether that’s the style, how they’re made or what they star. That said, the overriding theme throughout is one of high-end. Much like multiplexes today, that means premium content throughout the checklist and nothing that would be the hobby equivalent of a direct-to-DVD (or throwaway streaming) movie. To that end, seven of the 10 cards in every hobby box are hits. Of those, four are autographs — all of which have on-card signatures. The core of the base set is a double feature of sorts with players getting different cards of them in both Icon and Association uniforms. Parallels include Holo Silver (/49), Holo Red (/25), Gold (/10), Holo Gold (/5) and Platinum (1/1). Metal-framed short prints return. Feature Length and Vintage Art are both returning subset themes while Critically Acclaimed and Motion Picture both make their premiere. Sneaker Spotlight Signatures are back. As the name suggests, the player’s footwear gets the closeup alongside the ink. Spotlight Signatures, which highlight memorable photos and use gold pens, also return. Midnight Signatures and Capstones, which also have four pieces of memorabilia, make the jump over to Noir from other releases.
