2023-24 Panini Select Basketball sees the return of the chromium line that hits a lot of levels — literally. Like most every chrome set, there are parallels galore, bright inserts and a smattering of autographs and memorabilia cards. But this is Select so that means a multi-tiered base set to bring it all together.
Hobby boxes have three traditional hits and an average of one parallel per pack. Smaller H2 boxes are also available. These don’t stress autographs as a guarantee but the average of a Prizms parallel per pack remains. Select also returns to retail with multiple configurations.
All told, there’s a lot going on.
The base set is split different sections, each with their own design and rarity: Concourse, Premier Level and Courtside. Retail packs also have Mezzanine cards, bringing a fourth level to chase.
Hobby-only Prizms parallels include Bronze Checker, Gold Glitter, Zebra, Tie-Dye (/25), Gold (/10), Green (/5), and Black Finite (1/1). Some also add die-cuts to go with the various colors and patterns.
H2 boxes are where you’ll find a mix of Disco parallels that have circles running through the background. Light Blue Disco (/99), White Disco (/75), Red Disco (/49), Blue Disco (/25), Gold Disco (/10), Green Disco (/5) and Black Disco (1/1) are among the versions.
On the retail side, Orange Flash, Purple Flash (/175), Blue Flash (/99) and Gold Flash (/10) are only in blasters. Mega box exclusives include Blue Cracked Ice, Pink Cracked Ice (/99), White Cracked Ice (/49) and Gold Cracked Ice (/10)
Also distinct to retail are standard Blue cards. These replace base cards found in hobby packs. Select was a hobby-exclusive product for a lot of years. The intention here is to keep print runs of standard cards in line with the past while expanding the product’s overall reach.
