2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball means dark days for the chromium line. It also comes on a different schedule versus past years when it was a late release. The product follows the 2023 set that came out just a few months earlier, in December.
Despite the calendar flip that now sees Black be the first Topps Chrome release of the season, the concept remains largely the same. Hobby boxes have just four cards per box, one of which is an autograph.
Keeping with the streamlined configuration, the base set is on the small side with just 100 cards. Veterans and rookies are present on the checklist.
Despite the small size, boxes are also small with just two base cards per box. So with 12 boxes per case, it’ll take more than four cases to land any particular card.

There are also Rookie Design Variations that are a case hit at 1:12 packs. Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1) compliment these.
Depth of Darkness are a new insert. These are extremely scarce at 1:60 packs or every fifth case. Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1) are available for these as well.
Chrome Black Autographs are the main source of signatures in the product. These carry a similar design as the main set. Parallels include Refractors (/150), Green Refractors (/99), Gold Refractors (/50), Gold Mini-Diamond Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5) and Superfractors (1/1).
