Product Overview

2024 Upper Deck Marvel Beginnings Vol. 2 Series 2 is the middle of three separate but connected releases that aim to be an anthology of sorts for the vast comic universe. It in itself is an update of a similar series of three sets more than a decade ago. Like the originals (and Vol. 2 Series 1), there are lots of inserts that compliment and expand on the main checklist using different themes and printing technology. The base set has another 180 cards, adding to the 180 in Series 1. Once the third and final planned release rolls out, the master checklist will consist of 540 cards. Centered on characters, they chart both who they are and significant moments in their fictional histories. Parallels take on a variety of forms like Rainbow Foil, Green Rainbow Mirror World (/61) and a mix of Flipped FX colors including one-of-one Gold. Red Supernova and Flipped FX Purple (/10) are only in retail blaster packs. Comic Clippings return with frames from actual books embedded in them. Autograph versions with signatures from the books’ creators are also available. Mega Splash Jumbo Clippings offer even bigger pieces. Holograms and Upper Deck have a long history together. This includes every Marvel Beginnings set to date. The tradition isn’t broken here with a new crop of cards. They are tough, though, landing approximately one per hobby case. Glitz and Glam, which fall at a rate of about every fourth box, have pop thanks to their patterned foilboard stock. Breakthrough Issue cards put the spotlight on key comics. Creator autographs are in the mix here, too. Additional insert themes include Cosmic Annihilation, Gods of Marvel, Heavyweights and Swordsmen. Think of these as grouping characters with similar traits together to dive a little deeper.
