2024-25 Panini Obsidian Basketball: One Pack, All Punch

Obsidian is back for another season, and it’s still the coolest blacked-out product in the hobby. This isn’t your typical chrome release. It’s darker, flashier, and it throws just enough chaos into the mix with color-flooded parallels and sharp designs that look like they came from another planet.

This year’s release sticks to the one-pack format. Every hobby box includes seven total cards, with three guaranteed hits — usually two autographs and one memorabilia card — plus three inserts or parallels and one lone base card.

Simple. Fast. Fun. And full of potential.

Design and Parallels

Obsidian is all about the look. These cards don’t feel like anything else in the basketball lineup. They’re etched, heavy, and designed to shine — literally. The base cards pop under the right light, and the parallels dial it up with a splash of neon.

A few new flood parallels join the party this year:

  • Pink Flood, numbered to 49
  • Blue Flood, numbered to 30
  • Hot Springs, numbered to 15
  • Caldera, which might be short printed but hasn’t revealed its numbering yet
Of course, longtime collectors can expect to see the full range of Electric Etch parallels again, from mid-numbered color blasts to true one-of-ones.

Autographs

Obsidian tends to keep things familiar when it comes to autographs — but in a good way. The themes return year after year because they work.

This year’s checklist brings back:

  • Rookie Jersey Autographs
  • Rookie Jersey Ink
  • Magmatic Signatures
  • Matrix Material Autos
  • Twilight Signatures
  • Volcanic Signatures
  • Rookie Eruption Autos
  • Galaxy Ink
And there’s one fresh face in the mix — Scorched Signatures. These cards feature flame-driven designs that crank up the heat and give the set a little visual edge.

Memorabilia

Cutting Edge memorabilia cards are back again. As the name suggests, the design leans sharp and clean, and the swatches are usually solid. These aren’t just tossed-in jersey cards. They’re bold and usually tied to big names or promising rookies.

Inserts

The insert selection in Obsidian has always had a sci-fi, stylized vibe. They’re not just filler — they look like they belong on display. Returning insert sets include:

  • Supernova
  • Orbital
  • Hotspot
  • Equinox
One new addition this year is Atomic Initials. These cards layer the player's initials and name across an action shot, creating a clean and modern look that fits the product well.

And for those who chase the rare stuff, Obsidian has always included a few low-print chase cards that are tough to hit. Two familiar SSPs return:

  • Volcanix
  • Black Color Blast
A third one enters the mix in 2024-25 — Vitreous. It’s a new die-cut design that should make waves with insert collectors.

Obsidian doesn’t try to be everything. It’s sleek, it’s dramatic, and it hits hard in a single pack. If you like blacked-out foil, colorful flashes, and the thrill of pulling a big-name rookie auto with just one rip, this one’s still got your name on it.
