The Spring Catalog Auction hosted by Robert Edward Auctions culminated in a remarkable total sales figure of $15.4 million. This event was highlighted by the sale of high-grade vintage card sets, a rare Mickey Mantle rookie card, and Michael Jordan's rookie sneakers, illustrating robust enthusiasm across various collectible domains.

Robert Edward Auctions concluded its Spring Catalog Auction on a high note, registering an impressive $15.4 million in total sales. This auction not only saw a historic level of participation but also set a new record in terms of bidder turnout, with over 91,200 bids cast, indicating a significant surge in collector engagement.

Leading the auction was a 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron card, graded PSA 9, which commanded a top bid of $420,000. While this sum fell short of the record for an Aaron rookie, it was complemented by the sale of another Aaron card—a 1971 Topps graded PSA 10—that achieved a new high at $210,000.

Additional highlights included the sale of Derek Jeter's 1993 Upper Deck SP rookie card—one of just 21 in existence—which fetched $312,000. Also notable was the sale of a T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait with Red Background from 1909-1911, uniquely backed by a Broad Leaf 350 and graded PSA 2.5, which brought in $270,000.

The auction featured a newly consigned 1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle rookie card that attracted considerable attention. The card, which was graded PSA 2 for the card quality and 9 for the autograph, sold for $204,000.

The auction spotlighted the collectors' renewed interest in assembling complete high-grade sets. Among these, the fourth-ranked 1969-70 Topps Basketball set, boasting an 8.77 GPA, achieved a remarkable $336,000. Other notable sets included the sixth-ranked 1969 Topps Baseball set, which sold for $216,000, and a completely graded 1962 Topps set with 32 variations, which garnered $108,000. A 1956 Topps set that included an SGC 8 Mickey Mantle card also drew significant interest, selling for $75,000.

A standout item was Michael Jordan's game-worn, autographed Nike Air Ship sneakers from his 1984 rookie season with the Chicago Bulls, which went for $282,000, showcasing the high demand for game-used memorabilia.

The auction also featured a range of other significant items, such as a circa 1913 Joe Jackson photograph by Charles Conlon, which sold for $192,000, and a circa 1920 Babe Ruth single-signed baseball, which achieved $180,000. Additionally, the sale included a signed 1933 R319 Goudey #92 Lou Gehrig card at $180,000, and a 1986-1987 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card graded PSA 10, which sold for $168,000.

REA's President, Brian Dwyer, expressed enthusiasm over the broad spectrum of interest and active participation, which he viewed as reflective of the robust health of the collectibles market.

Looking forward, REA is preparing for its next major event, the May Encore Auction, which will be held from May 9 to May 19, promising another opportunity for collectors to acquire rare and sought-after items.
