Hey fellow collectors,

I wanted to voice my frustration regarding Panini's use of event-worn memorabilia in their trading cards instead of genuine game-worn items. It seems that the trend of using event-worn or even non-worn items has become more prevalent, and as a collector, I can't help but feel let down by this practice.

One of the most exciting aspects of collecting trading cards is the opportunity to own a piece of sports history. Game-worn memorabilia adds an extra layer of authenticity and connection to the player we admire. It's a tangible piece of their journey, representing the blood, sweat, and tears they put into the game.

However, it has become increasingly evident that Panini and other card manufacturers have been opting for event-worn memorabilia or, in some cases, items that were never worn by the player at all. While I understand that obtaining game-worn memorabilia can be challenging and expensive, it's disheartening to see a compromise on authenticity and value.

Using event-worn memorabilia, such as jerseys worn during photo shoots or events unrelated to the actual game, feels like a missed opportunity to provide collectors with a truly unique and meaningful piece. It diminishes the value and excitement associated with owning an item directly connected to the player's on-field performance.

Furthermore, the use of non-worn items, such as pieces of generic jerseys or equipment, further erodes the authenticity of the trading cards. It leaves collectors questioning the true value and significance of the memorabilia included in these cards.

As collectors, we invest our time, effort, and finances into building our collections. We expect transparency and authenticity from card manufacturers to maintain the integrity of the hobby. While there are instances where genuine game-worn memorabilia is utilized, it feels like those occasions are becoming increasingly rare.

I believe it's crucial for card manufacturers like Panini to prioritize the inclusion of game-worn memorabilia whenever possible. Collectors deserve the opportunity to own cards with genuine connections to their favorite athletes and cherish the unique history that comes with it.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts and experiences regarding this matter. Are you also disappointed with the use of event-worn or non-worn memorabilia in trading cards? What steps do you think card manufacturers should take to address this issue and prioritize authenticity?

Let's keep the conversation going and advocate for higher standards when it comes to the inclusion of genuine game-worn memorabilia in trading cards.

I recently changed the focus of my Rickey Henderson collection to just focus on his playing years. I was surprised to see how few game used memorabilia cards I have for Henderson. There were just a few made in the very early 2000’s.
