The rookie cards of Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes II, San Francisco's Brock Purdy, Baltimore's Lamar Jackson, and Detroit's Jared Goff are experiencing a notable surge in online auction values as the NFL Conference Championships approach.
In a high-stakes AFC Championship game, Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl winner, faces off against Jackson, who is currently leading the race for the 2023 NFL MVP award. On the NFC side, Purdy and Goff, both among the league's top passers in yards and touchdowns, are set to compete for a chance at the Super Bowl.
The increasing popularity of these quarterbacks is mirrored in the rising auction prices of their rookie cards on eBay. For instance, a 2017 Panini National Treasures Black card autographed by Mahomes sold for an impressive $19,300, while a 2017 signed Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket card of Mahomes, graded BGS 9.5, brought in $16,577.
Brock Purdy's 2022 Playoff Contenders signed Rookie Ticket "Cracked Ice" variation, limited to only 22 copies and graded PSA 10, commanded a price of $10,268. This follows the trend of Purdy's rookie cards, including a 2022 National Treasures signed patch card graded PSA 9, which sold for $15,000.
Lamar Jackson's rookie card market is equally vibrant, with a Gem-Mint 2018 Panini Prizm Black Finite card reaching $51,100. Another Jackson card, a 2018 National Treasures autographed patch card numbered #27/99 and graded BGS 9.5, fetched $18,000.
Jared Goff, despite a slower start to his career, is gaining traction in the collectibles market. His 2019 Panini Absolute Kaboom! card, a rare gold variation marked #6/10, sold for $3,049, and a 2016 Donruss Optic Gold Prizm rookie card, also rare and graded BGS 10, went for $2,950.
As the NFL playoffs heat up, the correlation between on-field success and the value of sports memorabilia is evident, with the rookie cards of these top quarterbacks becoming highly prized assets among collectors.
