Sotheby's is gearing up for an extraordinary event next month, "Sports Week," a one-week series of sports-themed auctions that will spotlight memorabilia from some of the most iconic figures and moments in modern sports history. Set in New York, the event comprises six live and online auctions, with items from sports legends including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Muhammad Ali, Wayne Gretzky, Tom Brady, and Steph Curry among the featured lots.

The lineup for "Sports Week" includes:

  • Los Angeles Lakers | Capsule Collection (March 27-April 10)
  • The Thrilla in Manila (March 27-April 10)
  • ZENITH | Important Sports Artifacts (March 27-April 10)
  • Court Classics | Important Basketball Sneakers (March 29-April 12)
  • NBA Auctions: 2024 All-Star Game | Online (March 28-April 15)
  • NBA Auctions: 2024 All-Star Game | Live (April 11 7PM ET)
Amidst a surge in demand for sports collectibles, Sotheby's "Sports Week" aims to cater to collectors seeking the crème de la crème of sports memorabilia. One of the auction's highlights includes Michael Jordan’s autographed sneakers from the 1996 NBA Finals Game 5, with an estimated value of $200,000 to $400,000. These sneakers were individually gifted to two Seattle Supersonics ball boys by Jordan himself and are now being auctioned as a pair.

Another standout lot is Muhammad Ali’s boxing trunks from the famed 1975 'Thrilla in Manila' fight, with an estimated worth of $4 to $6 million. Previously auctioned in 2012 for $118,500, these trunks represent a piece of boxing history.

The "Los Angeles Lakers | Capsule Collection" auction will be headlined by Kobe Bryant’s jersey from the 2009 Finals Game 1, estimated at $1.5 to $2.5 million, and a Lebron James jersey from his milestone 38,000th point game, with a pre-sale estimate of $300,000 to $500,000. Some proceeds from the Lakers-themed auction will support the Lakers Youth Foundation.

Furthermore, the "Zenith" auction is set to feature Jordan's 'Shattered Backboard' jersey from 1985 and memorabilia from other sports greats like Ernie Banks and Wayne Gretzky.

The NBA Auctions segments will offer jerseys from the 2024 All-Star Game, including those worn by LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama, Steph Curry, and Sabrina Ionescu during the event.
